49 Cars Derail at Spring City

Spring City, TN —  A Norfolk Southern train derailed in Spring City on Thursday night.  Details are listed below.

July 28: A northbound Norfolk Southern train derailed 49 coal cars in Spring City, Tenn., at 9:10 pm Thursday.

 Norfolk Southern is on site and is in the process of removing the damaged cars from the rails in order to make track repairs and reopen the rail line.

 There were no injuries to the train crew.

 The train consisted of 3 locomotives and 122 coal cars.

 The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

 July 29: Norfolk Southern worked through the night to clear the coal cars from the track. The next step will be to make track repairs. We estimate that train operations will begin again by late Saturday or early Sunday morning.
