The Spring City Chamber of Commerce recently received a $100 donation from George Thacker toward the Spring City Scholarship Pageant.  The donation was specifically given in order to increase the Jr. Miss scholarship from $400 to a total of $500.  Thacker expressed that, since the cost of higher education continues to rise, he felt this donation would help the Jr. Miss winner cover more of the associated costs for college.  The Spring City Chamber of Commerce and the Spring City Scholarship Pageant Committee would like to extend much appreciation for this generous donation.

The 2017 Spring City Scholarship Pageant will be held March 18 at the Spring City United Methodist Church Family Life Center.  The Scholarship Pageant is open to young ladies from birth through high school. The new Miss Spring City (high school Juniors and Seniors) will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used at the college of her choice and the Jr. Miss Spring City (8th grade and high school freshmen/sophomores) will receive a $500 scholarship that may be used for joint enrollment classes at Rhea County High School or at the college of her choice.

Young Miss Spring City will be chosen from 5th through 7th graders and Little Miss Spring City will be chosen from 1st through 4th graders. There will also be three divisions of newborn through kindergarten that will take place at 10 a.m. on pageant day with the 4 school age divisions starting at 6 p.m. in the evening.

There will be a free training session prior to the March 9 deadline for any contestants who turn in their application and $40 entry fee before February 20.  This training session is not mandatory to win the pageant, but it may be helpful to gain stage presence and interview skills.  All contestants who get in their applications by February 20 will be called at the number listed on their application to let them know when and where the training session will take place.

Deadline for applications is March 9 before 6 PM.  The chamber will extend office hours on March 9 to accept entries.

Applications are available at the Spring City Chamber of Commerce, Bailey Reed Motors, Spring City Municipal Building, online at, and at the Rhea County High School Guidance Office.  Completed applications may be returned to the Chamber Office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or mailed to P.O. Box 355, Spring City, TN 37381 to arrive before deadline date of March 9.

Contestants appear on stage in reverse order of applications received. For further information, contact Judith Barger at 802-2781 or the Spring City Chamber of Commerce at 365-5210. Businesses, clubs, or individuals wishing to be a sponsor of this worthwhile community project may call the Spring City Chamber of Commerce for details.
