Nashville, TN —  On May 13th and 14th, the Rhea Middle boys golf team took part in the Tennessee Middle School Golf Association Regional Tournament. The team was represented by Reagan Hinds, Matthew Rothwell, Luke Price, Nolan Purser, and Blake Wheat. This Tournament was held in Nashville, TN, at Two Rivers Golf Course and was a 36-hole event. Rhea Middle was one of 12 teams that hailed from East and Middle Tennessee. Rhea finished in 5th place with a team total of 725, only 2 strokes behind Ocoee Middle for 4th place. Rhea posted a team 378 on Day 1, which put them in 6th place. On Day 2, Rhea posted the 3rd best score of the day with a 347. Last year, just for comparison, Rhea posted tournament scores of 420 and 382 for a total of 802. Also, on the last day, Rhea Middle shot a team 172 on the front 9 and a team 175 on the back 9. These represent the best two scores on 9 holes for the season.

Head coach Bill Chattin was happy with the team effort and the amount of improvement from last year. “Matthew Rothwell, Reagan Hinds, Nolan Purser, and Blake Wheat were all part of last year’s group who made it to Regions. That experience proved invaluable as they made it back this year and showed great improvement. Day 1 to Day 2 showed a vast improvement in scores as they played great! This was by far the best that Rhea has done at TMSGA Regionals.”

Individually, Rothwell placed 10th (tie) out of 64 golfers, and led the way with scores of 83 and 78 for a tournament total of 161. Luke Price (33rd), shot an even 100 on Day 1 and set a personal best with an 87 on Day 2, including another best of 41 on the front 9, finishing with a 187. Reagan Hinds (34th – tie) also put up personal best numbers of 96 on Day 1, followed by a 92 on Day 2. Hinds saved his best for last with a personal record of 44 on his last 9 holes for a 2-day total of 188. Blake Wheat (36th – tie) shot a 99 and his personal best of 90 on Day 2 with matching 45s.
