Rhea Middle Lady Eagles Soccer team ends Record-Breaking Regular Season with scoring record against Lake Forest
The regular season ended for the Lady Eagles last Friday, but not after setting two school records. The first record was most goals scored in one game. The Lady Eagles beat Lake forest 9-0 to set that record. Also by getting that win over Lake Forest, the Lady Eagles set another record for the best regular season record at 6-4-2.
I just couldn’t be more proud of these girls and how far they have came this season. They have put a lot of hours and energy into this season. No matter what happens from this point on God has blessed this team beyond measure.

Rhea Middle was awarded the 4th seed in the SETAC conference, which was the highest seeding they have ever received. By being the 4th seed, the Lady Eagles were able to host a post season match against Chillhowee Middle school. This was also a first for the soccer team, they were never seeded high enough to be able to host a tournament game.
Last night was the first round of the tournament. The Lady Eagles came out strong and were ready to make a statement. Rhea Middle was able to attack the goal early and put pressure on the defense.
“Coach AJ has been giving the girls a task in ever game lately to score within the first 5 minutes. In order not to come out slow and that is what we did.”
After Rhea scored they took the pressure off the Chillhowee defense. A mental break down and a questionable no call allowed Chillhowee to get one in the net. When the game became tied the Eagles put the pressure back one. Hannah Deakins played a ball over the top to Jace Stone. The Chillhowee defender made dangerous play on the ball and the Eagles were awarded a free kick. Hannah Deakins stepped up and took the shot and it went upper 90 for a Eagles goal.
However, the ref said it was a indirect kick not a direct kick and the goal was no good. Rhea Middle didn’t let this phase them and continue to battle until Hannah Deakins was able to take a deep shot and score off a deflection from a defender to take the 2-1 lead at halftime.
During halftime Rhea Middle coaches encourage the players to continue attacking and pressuring the other team. The second half was all Rhea Middle.
“Our girls just continue to battle and fight to put the game out of reach for Chillhowee in the second half.”
Throughout the second half the Eagles took chances giving themselves goal scoring opportunities. Jace Stone was able to get a one more and Hannah Deakins put another couple in the back corner of the net.
Rhea Middle came out on top 5-1 over the visiting Chillhowee team. Rhea Middle will play number 1 seed Athens in the semi finals next in the conference tournament.
“This has been more then an exciting season for Lady Eagles Soccer. We have had a lot of first and best this season. We have the best soccer record in school history. We have scored the most goals in a single game. We have had the highest seeding then we ever had. We have hosted our first post season game. Then finally we have won our first post season game,” said Coach Johnny Cannon.
“I just couldn’t be more proud of these girls and how far they have came this season. They have put a lot of hours and energy into this season. No matter what happens from this point on God has blessed this team beyond measure.”
