Eagles and Lady Eagles each go 3-0 at Tennessee Tech
Cookeville, TN — Both Rhea County Tennis teams went unbeaten in the Mid-Season Tournament held at Tennessee Tech on Friday, April 13, 2018. With their three wins the Lady Eagles remain unbeaten with 9-0- record and also have an 8-0 district record. The Eagles ran their overall record to 7-2 and also put their district record at 5-2.
In the first game of the tournament the Eagles had their toughest match of the tournament in a match that came down to Bradley Clark winning a tie-breaker 9-8 to give the Eagles the 5-4 advantage and the win. The Lady Eagles interestingly lost the # 1 and # 2 match but 4-6 rallied for wins and Lady Eagles won a three doubles matches for the 7-2 win. With the wins, the Eagles ran season mark to 5-2 and Lady Eagles to 7-0.
Lady Eagles were dominant against Cumberland, the # 2 team in the central division of District 6-AAA. These two teams will play again on April 23rd in Dayton. Lady Eagles won 9-0, only giving up 12 points , with the toughest game going to 8-5. Eagles also won 9-0 against Cumberland with the aid of six defaults.
The Eagles won 6-3 over Red Bank with four wins in six singles and two doubles wins for the 6-3 margin. Lady Eagles were strong against Red Bank, winning all 9 matches and only losing 8 points in the match. Winning for Eagles were Sarah Edwards, Madison Martin, Hannah Parker, Maddie Smith, MaleeKate Ballard and Keylee Morgan in singles. Edwards/Martin, Smith/Ballard and Paige Reece/Morgan each won their games. For the boys it was Kyle Shaver, Brandon Newell, Bradley Clark and Coby Crump with wins in singles and Shaver/Newell and Clark/Crump winning doubles matches.
