Lady Eagles host Sweetwater Wildcats

Rhea County Lady Eagles Basketball team opened their home season Friday night with a 64-28 win.

The Lady Eagles started quickly and a Julie Brown 3 pointer put Rhea County up 10-2. Rhea County on the strength of 3 baskets from beyond the arc and stout defense outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-5 the rest of the quarter to lead 20-7 at the first break. Jessee Wallis showed up big in the second quarter with 11 points to help Rhea County build their lead up to 39-14 at the half.

Rhea County won the points battle in the third quarter with a 17-9 advantage to take the margin to 56-23 at the end of three quarters. Rhea County got the bench involved in the last quarter with everyone playing and Rhea County completing a final margin of 64-28.

Lady Eagle Scorers

Jessee Wallis lead all scorers with 19 points. Levi Amber scored 9 points and Megan Revis and Julie Brown each scored 7 points. Eleven Lady Eagles got into the scoring column for Coach Shane Johnson. Scoring for Rhea County were Shelby Thurman (6 pts), Katie Logen (5 pts), Tyra McClendon (4 pts), Madison Rader (2 pts), Emily Cheeks (2 pts), Kelsey Miles (2pts) and Kenzi Freeman (1 pt).

“It was a special night that our kids will remember for a long time. To be part of the first high school basketball game in the new building will be a great memory for them and to have a win makes it even more special.”

“We have to continue to improve and get better. As you take a look around our region and state we see some people on our schedule that we better be getting prepared to play.”
