Rhea County Eagles baseball wins 19-5 at Cumberland and drops home game to Owls 5-3

Dayton, TN — Rhea County High School baseball team split two games over two night with quite a contract in scores. The Eagles broke open a tight 6-5 game with a 13 run inning on their way to a 19-5 win. The next night, they returned home for an 11 inning pitcher’s duel that Owls broke open with two runs in 11th for the win. After putting up 22 hits at Crossville, the Eagles could only scratch out 6 hits in 11 innings. On Thursday, freshman Ross Pendergrass picked up his 3rd win of the year with good pitching performance and freshman Ricky Gutherie pitched well enough to win but Eagles could not get the bats going against Ooltewah.
Rhea County 19 Cumberland 5
At Crossvile three Eagles put up 4 hits in the 22 hit attack. Lucas Travis, Cameron Wilkerson and Dusty Smith each put up 4 hits. Braxton Dieckhaus took home the MVP belt with 7 RBI on the night with double and grand slam home run. Eagles put up 6 doubles and 1 home run on the night. Rhea County The top of the lineup continues to hit the ball well for the Eagles with Westin Ray, Cameron Wilkerson, Braxton Dieckhaus and Dusty Smith all hitting the ball well.
Ross Pendergrass put in 4 innings and Cameron Travis bailed out the Eagles with three strikeouts in top of fifth to keep Eagles in lead 6-5 going to the bottom of the 5th. In the bottom of 5th Eagles scored two runs on hits by Reece Cooley, Cameron Travis, a walk and then Wilkerson single. That brought up Braxton Dieckhuas and he cleared the base with grand slam home run. Back to back doubles by Lane Keylon and Dusty Smith pushed the margin to 13-5. Eagles continue the barrage with hits and base runners to finish the inning with 19-5 lead(13 runs scored). Cameron Travis pitched his second shutout inning in relief and Eagles get the win.
Ooltewah 5 Rhea County 3
Evensville, TN — Against Ooltewah it looked early like the momentum would continue with 3 first inning runs with Westin Ray leading off with walk and Cameron Wilkerson and Dusty Smith getting hits as Eagles jumped on top 3-0 early. Score remained 3-0 for five innings as Ricky Gutherie scattered 2 hits and 4 walks over the first five innings to keep a shutout. In the 6th inning two walks and two hits by Owls pushed across 3 runs to tie the score 3-3.
Gutherie finished the 7th with 3-3 tie and then Cameron Travis pitched 3 shutout innings. In the 11th inning Travis gave up solid hit to first hitter of the inning and after he was sacrificed over to second and Owls got a second hit of the inning, Coach Ray made the pitching change to bring in Cameron Wilkerson with 2 runners on. A wild pitch brought in the first run of the inning, an error by Dieckhaus allowed second run to score. Wilkerson got out of the inning but Eagles could not respond and Owls won 5-3.
