Rhea County’s Class of 2016 has proven to be a special group indeed.

“This is such an outstanding group of students who strive to work hard in the classroom, on the playing field and in many other extra curricular activities,” states Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Micah Ruehling.

One such academic standout is Brooklyn Runyan who attended the Governor’s School for Scientific Models and Data Analysis where she earned college credits in Statistics and Biology which she hopes to use as she pursues her future in the field of medicine.

Class of 2016 Valedictorian Kirsten Brooke Griffin, inspired by her pediatrician Dr. Neal and her love for children, plans to pursue a Pre-Med Major at Lee University, University of the South, or Princeton.

Class of 2016 Salutatorian Tyler Pendleton needs no introduction.  In addition to accomplishments in the classroom, Pendleton received first team All-State honors on the gridiron.

At middle linebacker, Pendleton was ranked 2nd in the nation for tackles and received an invite to the prestigious Toyota East vs. West All-Star Game.

Tyler received a football scholarship at the University of Cumberlands where he plans to major in Chemistry or Biology to one day become a doctor.

Esteemed History teacher, Mr. Rick Farney is excited to deliver the Class of 2016 Commencement Address.  After more than 30 years of service to Rhea County students, Farney plans to enjoy a much-deserved retirement after this school year.

Salutatorian Tyler Pendleton will deliver the Class of 2016 Welcome Address, and Valedictorian Kirsten Griffin is expected to send classmates off in true Golden Eagle style with a powerful Farewell Address.
