Douglas and Hostetler Named Daktronics Scholar-Athletes
DAYTON, Tenn. – The league announced on Monday the list of 179 NAIA Div. II men’s basketball players who were named 2019 Daktronics Scholar-Athletes, and Bryan College’s duo of Austin Douglas and Jonathan Hostetler were the Lions’ representatives as a result of their dedication and hard work in the classroom.
In order to be nominated by an institution, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor while having already completed two full academic years.
Six schools from the Appalachian Athletic Conference were represented with men’s basketball scholar-athletes, as Milligan College (Tenn.) led the way with four, followed by Bryan, Montreat College (N.C.), and Truett McConnell University (Ga.) with two apiece. Both Reinhardt University (Ga.) and Point University (Ga.) matched each other with one, respectively.
It marks the first time for Douglas and Hostetler to earn the title of scholar-athlete.
