Lesley Green Gets Fourth Track Medal To Go With Two Cross Country Medals

May 2019

Mufreesboro, TN —  Rhea County High School senior Lesley Green ran at the Tennessee State Tournament for Division 1 AAA Schools and came home with some hardware to show for their efforts.  Lesley Green picked up a sixth place finish in the 1600 and followed that with a fifth place finish in the 3200 to pick up two metals.  For Green this made six medals she has picked up during her stellar career at Rhea County.  She has medaled in cross countr(2017,2018) and track and field(2018(2) and 2019(2).

Lesley accomplished her medal count in the last two seasons.  She has continued to improve over that time.

Lesley said about this year’s state, “I wanted to get under 5;10:00 in 1600 and 11:00 in 3200, but my biggest goal was to make the podium(top 8).  Being able to accomplish both was a lot of fun.”

Before going to state, Lesley shared some of her philosophy on running long distance races.  Lesley said, “I want to run more patient this year.

On winning against runners with a better kick Lesley said, “I try to get out front a little sooner and begin my kick a little sooner than some of the other runners. Mentally that can throw them off and it pushes me to get faster.”

Asked about her late start taking up running, Lesley said, “Sometimes that I would have started earlier, but since I started running later, I have been able to see big improvements every year which has encouraged me to work hard. I can’t change the past, but I know I can do my best to be faster in the future.”

Asked which running was her favoriite, track or cross country, she said, “I prefer cross country because it mixes things up with different courses and it is longer which takes more endurance. I feel endurance is one of my strong points in running. In the end though, I enjoy them both.”

She did improve on both times from last year’s state competition.  Lesley, who is headed to UTC to run has finished her Rhea County High School career in fine fashion.  She was also recently selected Best of Preps team.

Lesley runs normally 35-50 miles per week.
