Lady Eagles defeat undefeated Cumberland County the #9 ranked team in the state, 62-58.
I’m proud of our kids effort and our focus. Just a good game between two good teams, and we were able to come out on top.
Coach Shane Johnston – Lady Eagles

This was the first of a 6 game stretch at home, and the first district game after the Winter break. The Lady Eagles entered the game with 12-4 record facing an undefeated, 17-0, Lady Jets team. Playing tenacious defense and using good fundamentals on offense allowed the Lady Eagles to capture the victory. The Lady Eagles dominated the boards with over 32 rebounds and shot at 50% on the floor. Add a host of steals, deflections, and blocks, and you end up with a jam-packed house on their feet for the majority of the game. It is clear the Eagle Nation is proudly supporting these girls as we enter the backstretch of the season.
The Lady Eagles jumped on top early leading with a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, but the undefeated Lady Jets came back with a vengeance in the 2nd taking a 33-26 lead to halftime. Coach Johnston must have had one heck of a halftime speech, as the Lady Eagles battled back to tie the game at 40 at the close of the 3rd period. Several lead changes took place in the 4th, but a key 3 pointer by Amber Levi helped the Lady Eagles secure the victory, 62-58.
The Lady Eagles are now 13-4 and 2-1 in Class AAA-Dist 6 play. Lady Eagle Jessee Wallis says, “So much hard work just paid off. Everybody stepped up and played their role, and we had a lot of fun doing it.”
