The Tennessee Wildlife Federation is taking applications for kids and parents interested in attending its Hunting and Fishing Academy at historic Reelfoot Lake February 8-9, 2019.

Feb 8 is included in the special “Kids Only” duck hunting season in Tennessee. The “Hunting and Fishing Academy” sponsored by TWF links youth and their parents or guardians with highly-trained, lifelong hunters, giving the youngsters an immersive experience in the unique world of duck hunting. Even if youngsters have duck hunted before, a Reelfoot Lake hunt among the massive flooded cypress swamps is unique.

Participants will not only learn the fundamentals of duck hunting, but they will also be able to develop their outdoor recreation skills such as field dressing harvested game and the principles of “leave no trace” outdoorsmanship.

To be eligible, youngsters must have successfully completed the Tennessee Hunter Education course prior to the hunt, have a valid Tennessee hunting license, and be 16 years old or younger.

The cost is $100 per hunter and $100 per parent/guardian, which includes room & board and the Saturday hunt. Participants who are selected for the hunt will be contacted soon after with specific details. Applications are available here. All who are interested are encouraged to apply.
