Eagle Defensive Standout Gavin Downey to join All-Stars in 2016 KY TN Border Bowl

Defensive standout Gavin Downey will join the best players our state has to offer in the 9th annual battle against Kentucky.  The 2016 National Guard KY/TN Border Bowl will take place 2 PM this Saturday at James H. Taylor, II Stadium at the University of the Cumberlands in Wiilliamsburg, KY.

Standing 6’3″ with a 240 lb. frame, Downey proved an ominous threat for offenses throughout the 2015 season.  The Class of 2016 defensive end accumulated 89 total tackles (8 for a loss) and led the team with 5 sacks.

The Tennessee All-Stars will be coached by Boyd Buchanan’s Grant Reynolds. In addition to Downey, the team will feature a host of talent from our area including Bradley Central’s Travon Ware (CB), Marion County’s Logan Walter’s (QB), East Hamilton’s Jeffrey Coleman (WR), and Boyd Buchanan’s Jake Harden (LB) and EJ Matthews (RB).

Downey is following in the footsteps of former Golden Eagle and teammate Jacob Williams who represented Tennessee last year. Kentucky won the 2015 thriller, 33-32, and tied the series at 4-4.

The National Guard Border Bowl has announced that the game will be a delayed broadcast on ESPN3 (Internet) at 3 pm Saturday.
