Dayton City Boys Basketball Begins 3-0: Lady Bees 1-2

November 2018

Dayton, TN —  The Dayton City School boys basketball team began year 3-0 with wins over Rhea Middle School, Soddy and Meigs County.  After an opening win against Rhea Middle School 48-25, the Bees next picked up a 59-17 win against Soddy.  They picked up their third win of the year with a 44-33 win against Meigs County.  All three games were home game.

The Dayton City School team has been effective at every phase of the game in opening the season.  Defense, ball handling, shooting and passing has all been above average.  The team probably is strongest at running the court.  The bees do an excellent job of getting the ball out of the net and into the opponent’s net.  But the sweatbees are also good in half court offense with some very good passing out of their sets.

Tyler Dupre has been the leader on the stat sheet with 21-14-20(45) points in the three game, but there has been plenty of help.  Kyler Aiken has 11-14-3(28) points and Rex Pendergrass has hit the books for 5-12-12 (29) points.

The Lady Bees began the year 1-2.  After losing opening game to Rhea Middle School, they came back to get win vs Soddy before dropping their game to Meigs County.

Against Soddy the lady bees raced out to 12-4 lead and then held on as Soddy came back to outscore DCS 20-17 over the next three quarters but bees held on for the 29-24 win.  Ava Travis led all scorers with 14 points in the game.  Against Meigs, the lady bees dug a big hole early as they fell behind 9-0 at end of first quarter and then came back with 13-9 second quarter to cut lead to 18-13 at halftime.  Meigs turned up pressure in second half and a 26-11 second half put the game out of reach.  Belle Cates, Autumn Spivey and Ava Travis led the lady bees with 7,6 and 5 points respectively.

Dayton City was scheduled on road at Signal Mountain on Monday before returning home on Tuesday vs Rockwood.
