Sweatbees get bye for State Tournament with 63-49 win over Coalfield

Coalfield, TN —  Dayton City School earned a first round bye and will be going to Sevierville next week thanks to their 63-49 win over Coalfield on Thursday night.  The Sweatbees ran their record to 19-3 on the year.

Lane Brooks led Bees’ scoring with 17 points (3/3 3-pointers). Tyler Dupree, tourney MVP, had 12.  Also scoring were Michael Hill 10, Alijah Davis 9 and Liam Moore 8 points.  Ethan Davis scored 5 points and Rex Pendergrass added 2 points for the Sweatbees.

Dayton City began the night with a big first quarter as Lane Brooks and Liam Moore totaled 9 and 8 points respectively as Sweatbees took 21-9 lead at end of the quarter.  Coalfield narrowed the margin to  30-24  with 15-9 advantage in the second quarter.  Six different Sweatbees scored in the third quarter as they won quarter narrowly 13-12 to increase lead with 43-36 lead after three quarters.  Tyler Dupre scored eight points as DCS finished strong with 20-13 advantage in last quarter to win 63-49.

Tyler Dupre, Alijah Davis, Lane Brooks, and Liam Moore were selected to the All-Tournament team and Tyler was selected the tournament MVP.

Coach Bill Marsh said, “This is the first boys have won District Four.  We have improved over the year.  We have had a lot of issues with injuries this year.  We are finally healthy and have blended in our sixth graders.  We have good depth this year.”
