Bryan Men’s Soccer Receiving Votes, Picked to Finish 2nd in AAC

DAYTON, Tenn. – Both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Appalachian Athletic Conference have already recognized the talent that the Bryan College Men’s Soccer Team possesses before the official season has even got underway. The Lions, who will kick off regular-season play on August 25 at home against the Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech University, are receiving votes and sit just outside the top-25 according to the 2018 Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top-25 Poll. In conference action, Bryan is tabbed to finish second, having collected one first-place vote and 106 total voting points in the 2018 AAC Preseason Poll.

The competitive AAC has two other teams ranking amongst the best in the country with the 2017 AAC Regular-Season Champion Reinhardt University (Ga.) snagging No. 23 and reigning AAC Tournament victor Truett McConnell University (Ga.) receiving votes behind Bryan. Reinhardt is the favorite to capture the men’s soccer title, but several groups are trailing closely behind to challenge the Eagles. Bryan’s 106 points is second, and Truett McConnell received 103 voting points, as well as, a pair of first-place votes. Next in line is Union College (Ky.), who managed 89 voting points and a lone first-place vote. Rounding out the top five is Tennessee Wesleyan University who scraped up 81 voting points.

Making up the rest of the field are St. Andrews University (N.C.) (56 points) in sixth, Bluefield College (Va.) (53 points) in seventh, Montreat College (N.C.) (44 points) in eighth, Milligan College (Tenn.) (30 points) in ninth, Point University (Ga.) (29 points) in 10th, and Columbia International University (S.C.) (19 points) in 11th.

This season, only the top eight teams will advance to the AAC Tournament, which will begin on Friday, Nov. 2. The semifinal round is set for Nov. 6 with the championship match slated for Nov. 9.

Bryan will be following up another outstanding season as the Lions impressed in 2017. Despite an incredibly tough schedule where the Lions clawed their way past a trio of ranked opponents and another receiving votes, they battled for an impressive 14-6 overall record and a near perfect 8-1 record in AAC play before ending the season in the semifinal round of the conference tournament.

While many new faces will be seen on the Bryan squad this year, several key returners will be leading the Lion Pride on the attack, including the 2017 AAC Offensive Player of the Year, Golden Boot winner, and NAIA All-American Honorable Mention Charlie Clarke.

Make sure to come and support your Lions on Aug. 25 at 2pm for their season opener!
