Diversity seems to be the word that we are hearing a lot of in our society today. The differences that are found in ethnicity, one’s background, beliefs, and personal opinion are all over the news and social media. These differences are nothing new and have been around since the beginning of mankind.
It seems like that every time a decision is made by someone that differs from the way we would make it, there is an out pouring of disrespect for that individual or group. We live in a country where there is a growing lack of respect for parents, teachers, police, and anyone in authority.
In athletics, I have seen lack of respect for coaches, referees, and opponents. Just because we don’t like someone’s actions, doesn’t mean it’s alright to have a disrespectful reaction. We need to get back to displaying and teaching respect to the young people of our nation.
In Mark 12:31 it states: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
We don’t have to align ourselves with our neighbor’s philosophy, opinions, or beliefs, but we do need to treat our neighbors as we would like to be treated. Often times we have to “agree to disagree” and move on with life.
Just something to ponder with a Thought for Thursday.
