Pageant affords opportunity to win scholarships for contestents
Spring City, TN — The Spring City Scholarship Pageant Committee in conjunction with the Spring City Chamber of Commerce has set the date of March 3 for the 2018 Spring City Scholarship Pageant at the Spring City United Methodist Church Family Life Center stage. The Scholarship Pageant this year is open to young ladies from Kindergarten through high school.
Lack of participation in the past few years in the birth through kindergarten morning pageant has prompted the committee to eliminate the morning pageant and the Chamber will focus on that age group at the new Mr. and Miss Christmas Pageant on parade day the second Saturday in December each year. Please check with the Chamber for further information on that age group.
The Kindergartners have been added to the Little Miss Division this year so all school children will be able to participate. Little Miss Spring City will be chosen from Kindergarten through 4th graders. Young Miss Spring City will be chosen from 5th through 7th graders.
The Jr. Miss Spring City division this year will include 8th graders as well as our regular high school freshmen and sophomores and will receive a $500 scholarship that may be used for dual enrollment classes at Rhea County High School or at the college of her choice.
The new Miss Spring City (high school Juniors and Seniors) will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used at the college of her choice. With the new ruling from Distinguished Young Woman state last year, a Junior may hold Miss Spring City title and still be eligible to participate in the upcoming DYW program as well. We thank the state DYW for their help in giving more opportunities for scholarships to our local young ladies.
There will be a free training session on February 10 at the Spring City UMC Family Life Center stage at 245 Church street prior to the February 14 deadline for all contestants who turn in their application with $40 entry fee and $10 Interview T-Shirt fee. You may also bring your application, entry fee and T-shirt fee to the training session February 10 and register at the door. Just call the chamber to find what time your contestant training session will be. This training session is not mandatory to win the pageant, but it may be helpful to gain stage presence and interview skills. All contestants who turn in their applications before Feb. 10 will be called on the number listed on their application to let them know what time their training session will take place.
Applications are available at the Spring City Chamber of Commerce, distributed at both Spring City Schools and online at springcitychamberofcommerce.com and at the Rhea County High School Guidance Office. The reigning 2018 Royalty will be visiting the Spring City Schools with applications.
There will also be a luncheon at the high school for contestants interested in further information. Date will be announced at the school.

Box 355, Spring City, TN 37381 to arrive before deadline date of February 14. They may be left in the drop box at the Chamber sign by the door or brought with you with all fees to the training session on February 10.
