Spring City wins 41-35 over New Center School to earn Final Four
Pigeon Forge, Tn — Spring City Middle basketball won 41-35 over New Center School on Wednesday to earn a Final Four berth against Colonial Heights on Friday night at Pigeon Forge Middle School in Pigeon Forge.
The Bulldogs got off to slow start and trailed 7-2 with 2:32 left in the first quarter. They did manage to send New Center big Paul Pawlowski to bench with two early fouls and New Center missed him on offense and defense for the rest of the half. After the slow start the Bulldogs battled back and an Austin Brackett three at the buzzer gave them a 10-7 first quarter advantage.
With 3:17 left in the second quarter, Cooper Takacs hit a three to give New Drive a 14-13 lead. Bulldogs battled back and Cade Cook’s three pushed Bulldogs to 18-14 lead with 43 seconds left in the quarter and that was the halftime score.
In the third quarter New Center erased the four point deficit and added their own four point lead at 22-18 with a 8-0 run to start the quarter. There was 2:16 left in the quarter before Drew Fisher hit a free throw. With 2:16 remaining in quarter, Cade Cook hit a three point basket, the only one of the quarter for the Bulldogs to pull even at 22-22. Rockets came back with late score for the 24-22 lead after three quarters.
Early in the fourth, Drew Fisher came away with steal and basket to put Bulldogs up 26-24 with 5:44 left and Cade Cook followed with steal and coast to coast basket for 28-24 lead with 4:50 left. Later New Center hit a three to tie the game at 31-31 and then it was Logan Fowler with the four point play to give the Rockets the lead 35-34 as he hit the three and was fouled and hit the free throw. That would be the last points of the game for New Center. Austin Bracket had the basket to give Bulldogs the lead and Jaden Pankey added 2 of his quarter high eight points to fatten the lead as time expired.
Bulldogs pulled off the dramatic 41-35 win and return on Friday night to face Colonial Heights in an 8:15 game at Pigeon Forge Middle School.
Cade Cooke lead all scorers with 20 points, Jaden Pankey and Austin Brackett each tallied 8 points and Drew Fisher scored 3 points to finish the scoring. Fisher also had double figure rebounds in the game and added a block and steal to his total. Great team effort for the win.
