December 2018

Spring City, TN —  The Kiwanis Club of Spring City installed the officers for the 2018-19 year at their meeting in November. Past President Ron McCabe was thanked and given a plaque for his service by incoming President, Bob Smith.

On Saturday the Kiwanis Club will be holding their Christmas Food Box Event that is a yearly tradition.  The boxes will be assembled Friday 12-14, with dinner at 6 and boxes about 6:30.  They will be given away the morning of the 15th.

The local high school baseball and basketball teams have been very involved in the event.

The Kiwanis Club does fundraising throughout the year to make this event possible. Several large contributors as well as businesses contribute to the cause. Another significant contribution comes from the community of Spring City as neighbors look to help out neighbors. Sunday School Classes at United Methodist Church make this a project around Christmas time to give money for the cause.

The acquisition process of the the food begins in November and the logistics are put in place to bring the food and community together. Potential families are made aware of the coming distribution and fill out paperwork that is brought with the families to the pickup. The contents of the boxes contain a lot of fresh food and fruits as well as milk. After the food is purchased, the boxes are bought, and the packing begins
