Spring City Defeats Oliver Springs 40-8 at Home
Spring City, TN — Spring City Middle School Bulldogs hosted first round playoff game on Thursday, October 11, 2018 and came away with a convincing 40-8 win to move on to play Oneida Middle on Thursday in Oneida with 7 pm kickoff.
Oliver Spring had first possession but turned over ball to Bulldogs at Bulldogs’ 49 yard line. On their first offense play with 5:55 left on first quarter clock, it was Caleb O’Dell taking the ball 51 yards with nice run through a nice hole the offensive line opened and Bulldogs went up 8-0 after the Latron “Tank” Alloway two point conversion run.
Bulldogs held on Bobcats’ second possession and Oliver Springs turned ball over on downs after a unsuccessful pass on fourth down. It took Bulldogs two plays to score on their second possession. On the play from the play Kade Houston started left and then made nice cut to the left and left a string of defenders as he rambled to Bobcat end zone for the touchdown. Conversion run was short and short stayed at 14-0 with 3:10 left on first quarter clock.
On Bobcats’ second possession they began on their own 35 but earned a couple of first downs to move the ball down the field. Big play was nice pass to Gouge for Bobcats to give them first and goal. Bulldogs defense stiffened but on 4th and goal, it was Young running in the ball for Bobcats’ first score of the night. Green came up with 2 point conversion reception to cut the Bulldog lead to 14-8 with 7:21 left in second quarter.
Bulldogs’s Will Combs came up with onside kick to setup the Bulldgos at the Bulldogs 44 yard line. After Houston and O’Dell picked up rushing first downs for the Bulldogs, Alloway ran the ball in to move the score to 20-0 with 5:33 left in second quarter.
On the kickoff, it was the Bulldogs coming up with the ball to setup shop at own 44 yard line but Bulldogs gave the ball right back on fumble. Tyler Neal and Jaxon Reed made nice stop to force a 4th down for Oliver Springs, but Bobcats made the first down on next play. Green made a nice grab to pick up a second first down deep in Bulldog territory. J.R. Wilson then came up with big interception and return to put a stop to the threat. Wilson returned the ball across midfield with 2:35 left until halftime. Bulldogs stalled and Alloway had to improvise on fourth down as bad snap made Alloway a runner and he had nice run but ended up short of the yardage needed for first down. Bobcats could do nothing over the last minute of half and teams headed to locker room with 20-8 Spring City lead.
Cooper Brackett recovered the onside kick around midfield for Bulldogs to start the second half. After Alloway picked up a first down for the Bulldogs, Caleb O’Dell squired around the right end and down the sidelines for a long touchdown run. Bulldogs tacked on two point conversion to push the lead to 28-8 with 6:16 left in third quarter.
Bulldogs defense kept the Bobcats out of the end zone for the rest of the game and Tank Alloway scored the fifth touchdown late in the third quarter after O’Dell had nice long run to put the ball deep in Bobcat territory. Alloway added another touchdown in the fourth quarter to give the final 40-8 margin.
On defense Trent Edwards and Latron Alloway led the team with 10 and 7 tackles each. Also contributing multiple tackles were Tyler Neal, Hunter Crowe, and Caleb O’Dell.
