Rhea Middle Softball explodes for 22 runs in Tournament

Rhea Middle wins 12-0 and 10-3 to earn Championship of SETAC

Evensville, TN —  Rhea Middle Softball exploded for 22 runs in the first two games of the SETAC post season tournament in two wins.  The first win was 12-0 over McMinn County and the second was a 10-3 win over Ocoee Middle.  With the two wins the Lady Eagles earned the championship game against Lake Forest with 6:30 first pitch at home.

Against Ocoee the Lady Eagles were visitors on the score sheet.  In the top of the third inning, the Lady Eagles used singles by Courtney Wilson, Emma Gentry to set table for Michaela Taylor who tripled down the first base line to score both runners.  Laney Poole then brought Wilson home with sharp single down third base line.  In top of the third, Bailey Roberts and Emma Ballard led off with singles.  Later in the inning it was Ray and Wilson with double and triple to drive in 2 more runs for 5-0 lead.  Ocoee got one run back  but in top of fifth, the Lady Eagles again went on the offensive with consecutive singles by Laney Poole, Gabrielle Messer, and Emma Roberts to drive in two more runs and take 7-1 lead.  In sixth Ray and Wilson again had single and double to setup two more runs for Rhea Middle and put lead to 9-1.  Ocoee Middle came back for two runs in bottom of seventh but too little too late and final stood at 10-3 and Rhea was on to play in championship game.  For the game the Lady Eagles had 12 hits and pitcher Michaela Taylor scattered five hits in the win.

In the first game of the tournament the Lady Eagles came out with 7 run first inning.  In the inning, they put together seven hits, including triples, three double and one home run.  Lady Eagles scored 5 more runs later in the game for the 12-0 win.  Michaela Taylor was dominant on the mound, facing one over the minimum in pitching a shutout.

Marissa Ray, Emma Gentry and Gabrielle Messer each had triples in the first, while Wilson, Taylor and Ballard had doubles.  Laney Poole had an inside the park home run for the Lady Eagles.
