Lady Eagles drop final match to Sale Creek on Senior Day
Evensville, TN — Rhea County Volleyball finished their regular season with a five set match against Sale Creek. Rhea County started well with two wins in first two matches, but the very good Sale Creek team battled back to win match in five sets. Three senior players were honored before the match.
Gracie Smith, Celie Patterson and Alexia Skiles were all on the court on Saturday and each has played a part in the success of the team. 22 wins is a vast improvement over last season and these three young ladies were a big part of the Lady Eagle success this year.
The Lady Eagles earlier in the season brought back hardware from tournament at Bradley County. After suffering early losses in the pool(seeding games) of tournament, the Lady Eagles came back to win the Silver Division. RCHS played Harris County, Chattanooga Christian, and Hardin Valley in pool play. They played Red Bank, Bradley and Heritage in the Silver Division Tournament and won all three.
Coach Stephanie Burgess said, “We lost all of our pool games, we were expected to come in last at the tournament but came in to win the silver division! Our pool play games were very difficult teams, but we competed with all of them point for point.”
“We played well , we just aren’t used to that kind of battle. The next day was a different story. We used several different new rotations and it worked! We beat Red Bank by a pretty good margin, then beat Bradley in three. In the 3rd set we beat Bradley 25 to 12 after losing to them in regular season play. It was amazing! Then we went into the championship game against Heritage. Heritage had defeated Harris County which we had lost to previously, but that didn’t stop the mentality of these girls. Everyone was on fire! The first set was 25 17 second set was 25 12.”
