May 2018

Cookeville, TN —  Rhea County Soccer was edged by Cookeville 1-0 on Thursday night in Cookeville in the district tournament title game.  Around the 15 minute mark as Caden Wilcox hit the first and only goal of the game.  Rhea County out hot early with several goals shots early but as game progressed there were fewer opportunities for goals and Eagles never got the shot they needed for the tie.  Payne Morgan was great in goal on the night.

Rhea County and Cookeville treated fans to a very exciting defensive battle and now both move on to Region play next Tuesday.  Rhea County will travel to Cleveland with a chance to get back to Cookeville for a rematch with Cookeville with a win over Cleveland.  Rhea will put their focus on Cleveland, a team they have not played this year.  Any lapse of focus could deny Eagles a chance for rematch with Cookeville.

Coach Justin Smith said, “We battle really hard.  Glad to not be done.  We had several real good opportunities that if we would have finished, who knows who would have happened.  Their goal was really unlucky for us.  It was back and forth and a really good game.  The boys fought hard.  That was the most physical we have played against Cookeville all year.  We are going to keep fighting and get back up here on Thursday.”
