Lady Eagles basketball uses 25 point 4th to win 67-54
Evensville, TN — Rhea County Lady Eagles hosted the Roane County High School basketball team on Friday night at home. The Roane County team came into the game with a 6-5 record and the Lady Eagles came in with 15-3 record with three losses, all against top ranked teams in the State, (East Hamilton, Baylor and Clarkrange).
Rhea County got off to slow start with several in first quarter, but still clung to 15-14 lead at quarter’s end despite 12 points from Riley Gullement. Roane played similar style to Rhea County with good ball handers, probing the Rhea County defense for opportunities to score.
Kingston remained close in the second quarter and got the ball inside for some easy baske ts to remain close. Lady Eagles stepped up the defense and shutdownt he outside shooting but still only lead 27-24 at the half. The Roane County team was poised and played well aginst the Lady Eagles.
Roane County came out with three pointer to take early lead and won the quarter 17-15 to cut the defecit to 42-41 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Micah Black canned a top of the key three point basket to open the second half and Haley Cameron hit a couple of baskets Maddie Smith had a steal and coast to coast basket to give the Lady Eagles a 9-1 boost out of the gate to give the Lady Eagles a 51-42 margin early in the second quarter. Roane County did not score first basket until 4:32 remained on the clock for the game. Micah Black answere that basket with steal and coast to coast to push the margin back up to nine points. Black and Mallory Hampton canned 11 of 12 free throws in fourth quarter to secure a 67-54 win.
Micah Black led the Lady Eagles with 24 points and Haley Cameron and Mallory Hampton each added 13 points. Macy Welch also made double figures with 11 points. Also scoring were: Maddie Taylor 2, and Maddie Smith 4. Riley Guillement led all scorers with 26 points and Amanda Pankey added 10 points as leading scorers for Roane County(Kingston).
