First Round TSSAA Class 5A Playoffs
Bill Horton Field – November 8, 2013
Rhea County Golden Eagle fans were either on the edge of their seat or on their feet during Friday night’s match-up against Lenoir City. Golden Eagles trailed 24-21 at halftime, but rallied in the second half for a final score of 35-24. The Golden Eagles are now 10-1 for the season and are set to play Cleveland next Friday, November 15th at Bill Horton Field.
Freshman Cody Bice #21 intercepted a pass on Lenoir City’s first drive which allowed the Rhea County Offense to strike first blood with a QB sneak by Austin Dotson. But Lenoir City quickly returned the call with a 79 yard run from Jaylond Woods. Panther back and University of TN commit, Jaylond Woods is the best single player Rhea County has faced this season. Woods rushed for 216 yards on only 15 carries averaging 14.4 yards a carry. Rhea County’s second touchdown came on a one yard run from freshman Mason Stephenson #16. The Panthers came alive in the 2nd quarter scoring 17 points to take a 3 point lead into halftime.
I thought our defense played superb in the 2nd half. They had some dangerous guys that could make plays.Coach Pemberton - Golden Eagles

Jacob York #5 scored on a 3 yard run during the 3rd quarter for his 2nd TD of the night. Senior Taylor Jenkins #12 had 3 receptions totaling 24 yards including a TD in the 4th quarter which sealed the win for the Eagles.
