July 2018

Evensville, TN —  The 2018 Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp brought in over 300 campers and counselors and as usual they had a great time.  After opening day with devotions and music the campers rotated through several stations where they played basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, chicken dodge ball, softball and kickball.

Later in the day they moved on to participate in over a dozen different fun activities that included frisbee throwing through target, horse show throwing, ping pong ball into basket and many more.  The teams earned points for games and for scripture memorization.

43 Counselors worked with campers during the week.

At the end of each day of camp there were featured speakers.  Included in those were Bryan Athletic Director Taylor Hasty, Doctor Chris Horton, Camp Director Justin Smith and Jay Fowler with Chattanooga Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Chris Horton’s father Bill Horton began the camp at Rhea County back in 1984.  Originally the camp was for boys only but that changed several years back.

On the last day was the always exciting Wild Eagle Relay that included lead frog and sack race.  Just a frenzy of activity to finish off the sports activities for the camp.

The FCA has challenged athletes and coaches to make a difference in their school and communities since 1954.  Fellowship of Christian Athletes helps to equip and empower young students as they reach over two million people annually.  FCA is the largest interdenominational sports ministry in the world.

The Theme for this year’s camp was strong and scripture verse was 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”, which was on the front of the camp tee shirts.

The sponsors for the camp included New Union Baptist Church, Farm Bureau Insurance, Richland Creek Dental, Professional Therapy Services, Jace Cochran – Attorney at Law, Dr. Tom Bovine, First Bank, Tennessee Screen Print, CHI Memorial (Horton Family Medicine) Associates, Educator Software Solutions, and River Valley AG Credit.
