Rhea County Basketball Wins at Midway

Midway, TN — Both Rhea County teams won their last game of 2014 and now look forward to 2015. The Lady Eagles had a tough one but came out a 46-42 winner over Midway in the Championship game of the Midway Holiday Classic. The Eagles finished up strong with a 90-73 win over Coalfield to put their season record at 7-7.

The Eagles were down 21-19 at the end of the first quarter but came back with strong second quarter to take a 42-33 lead at halftime. The Eagles won both the last two quarters as they won 90-73. Lee hill had a big game with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Logan Hunter had a good shooting day with 7 of 10 from the field and 3 of 4 from behind the arc.

Lady Eagles win Midway Holiday Classic Tourney

The Lady Eagles also began on the wrong side of the score in their game against Midway. Midway lead 15-7 after one quarter. The Lady Eagles came back to win the 2nd quarter but still tailed at halftime 22-19.

Working hard the Lady Eagles had the lead after 3 quarters, 34-33. At the end it was Rhea County with the hard fought 46-42 win. The win gave the Lady Eagles the Championship as they won all three games in the tournament to push their season record to 16-5.

Three players finished in double figures for the Lady Eagles. Levi, Thurman and Wallis had 14,11 and 10 points respectively. Thurman and Wallis led the rebound totals with 7 and 5 rebounds. The Lady Eagles did not have a good night from the field with 28% on 15 of 53 shots and only 22% on 5 of 22 from behind the arc. Also scoring were: Freeman with 6 points and Revis with 5 points.

Both teams will be off until a road district tilt against Cumberland County on January 9, 2014. First Junior Varsity game is scheduled for 4:30 pm, second at 5:30 pm. Girls and Boys varsity games are scheduled for 7:00 and 8:30 pm.

Cumberland County Lady Jets bring a very strong team to Rhea County with a 12-3 record. All three losses were to top 10 ranked teams, including Elizabethtown and Brentwood. The Jets come in with 8-10 record but have won 5 of their last 6 games. They are 1-1 in district play with loss to Cookeville and win over Warren County.
