Eagles Gets Wins Over Sequatchie, Soddy and Hixson
Evensville, TN — The Rhea County High School baseball team followed up on challenge from coaching staff to “Win the Week” as they won three of the four games for the week. The began with a win on the road at Sequatchie with the 16-5 win. After losing 3-0 to Lenior City the Eagles rebounded for 8-3 and 12-3 wins over Soddy Daisy and Hixson for 3-1 record for the week.
On Monday against Sequatchie County High School eight of the nine starters contribued at least one hit. Dusty Smith had three hits to lead the hitting. Pitcher Fisher contribued two hits, two walks and one hit-by-pitcher to the offense. Keaton Ray contributed a home run, single and walk to the line.
On Wednesday, the Eagles rebounded from their shutout loss to Lenior City on Tuesday to win 8-3 against Soddy Daisy. Ricky Guthrie picked up the win with an unusual line of nine strike outs and nine walks against two hits. Soddy scored two runs in first and one more in second without the benefit of hit, getting four walks and hit-by-pitcher to generate their offense. Keatron Ray had a hit and two walks to lead Eagles on offense and Austin Brackett and John Combs each had double for Rhea County.
Thursday the Ealges had an even better game than Wednesday as they put 12 runs on the board against three runs given up. Ross Pendergrass continued the good pitching for the Eagles with six solid innings. Ross gave up three runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out eight. Hougston Schaefer finished the game with one inning of hitless ball, while striking out two.
Connor Thompson had three hits to lead the Eagles who were the beneficiary of seven walks and four hit-by-pitcher on the night in the win.
On the week the three winners of the Iron Eagle award given the top performer were Jared Fisher, Ricky Guthrie and Ross Pendergrass.
