Rhea County Baseball drops 6-0 game to Cookeville, drops into tie for district:  Joshua South holds Rhea County bats in check

Evensville, TN —  Rhea County baseball is tied for district race with Cookeville after Joshua South held the Eagle bats in check with five hit, 8 strikeout performance.  South recently returned to action over the weekend after missing first of season with injury.

Eagles Starter Rickie Gutherie gave up first four runs and Ross Pendergrass pitched in relief, giving up two runs and Baylor Dulaney finished game with one inning of relief.  Pitching gave up eleven walks and two hit batsmen to aid the Cavalier offense.  Cavaliers had six hits on the night.  Rhea County had five hits with Braxton Dieckhaus and Lane Keylon each hitting two singles.  Westin Ray added the other single for Rhea County.

Cookeville scored run in first inning on couple of singles by Cade Smith and Dylan Sparks sandwitched around a walk by Cody Hutcherson.  In second three walks loaded bases for Cade Smith who delivered single to left field to drive in two runs.  Third inning saw a 6-3 double play get Eagles out of any trouble and then in fourth Gutherie gave up hit batsman and walk after opening inning with out.  With one out Ross Pendergrass relieved and gave up walk and sacrifice fly to put the fourth run on board.  After a scoreless fifth, the Calvaliers scratched across two more runs with two outs when two runners scored on double by Dylan Sparks.  Runners were on base as result of error and walk.  Baylor Dulaney finished the game for Eagles with scoreless seventh.

Stat highlights through first 20 games.

Westin Ray continues to lead the team with .515 average through 20 games this season.  he also has team leading 32 runs scored.  Cam Wilkerson and Dusty Smith are both over .400, hitting .474 and .431 respectively.  Braxton Dieckhaus and Lucas Travis are over .300 with .381 and .333 averages on season.   Team is hitting .337 through 20 games.  Cameron Wilkerson is only Eagle with multiple home runs with four and three Eagles are in running for doubles crown with 10,9 and 8 doubles.  Those three are Dusty Smith, Braxton Dieckhaus and Westin Ray.

Freshman Ross Pendergrass lead the team with four wins against one loss, while fellow freshman Ricky Gutherie sported a 3-0 record through 20 games.  Braxton Dieckhaus and Baylor Dulaney are each 2-1 through 20 games. Team was 13-7 through first 20 games of the season.  Cameron Wilkerson and Lucas Travis lead the team in ERA with limited action with 5.2 and 8.1 innings pitched.  Rickey Gutherie(22 1/3 inning pitched) and Baylor Dulaney(22 innings pitched) are next with 2.14 and 3.18 ERA respectively.   Team ERA is 4.27.
