Rhea County Academy Warriors cruise to victory over Cleveland Christian in opening round.

Rhea County Academy Warriors Basketball teams win opening play-off game at home. Rhea County Men’s team reaped the benefits of being a number one seed with a home game against Cleveland Christian. This game was an opportunity for Coach Tim Hostetler to play his bench and rest starters early. Nine Warriors scored in the first quarter as Rhea County Academy enjoyed a 22-4 lead at the end of quarter number one.

The second quarter went much as the first quarter as the Warriors outscored the Crusaders 17-4 en route to a 39-8 halftime lead. Third quarter was very similar to the first two and Josh Simmons scored eight points as the Warriors ended the third quarter with a 51-12 lead. The final score was 55-14 in this opening round game.
Coach Tim Hostetler said “Cleveland was playing with their best player not available and it definitely impacted the game. I had an opportunity to get lots of playing time for the bench.”

Twelve different Warriors scored in this game. Leading the way with eight points each was Dylan Gibby and Josh Simmons. RCA next plays in the post-season down in Rossville on Thursday night at 7 pm.
The Women’s team also was victorious in their opening round game against Mountain View Christian played at Fort Bluff on Monday night. The Lady Warriors came out strong, holding Mountain View to one point on their way to a 8-1 first quarter lead. A 15-6 margin in the second quarter boosted the lead to 23-7 after two quarters.
Mountain View had a spurt in the third quarter as they outscored Rhea County Academy 8-6 to cut the lead to 29-15 after three quarters. Much as they started the game the Lady Warriors held Mountain View to one point in the last quarter to secure a 40-16 win. Madison Ricketts had 14 points to lead RCA. Also scoring for RCA was Sarah Simmons and Lexi Snyder with 8 points each, Mayo Sommers with 6 points, Lydia Syder with 3 points and Bethany Truax with 1 point.
