On Friday, February 17, 2017 Rhea County High School hosted their annual Academic Champions Induction Ceremony and banquet. This year, 78 new Juniors and Seniors were inducted into the prestigious group of students who have achieved and maintained a 95 grade average in their course work.
The inducted students sign and pledged to continue to strive toward academic excellence. Each student inducted was awarded a certificate of excellence and a gold honor cord to wear at graduation.
Fifty senior members were celebrated as returning and assisted in the program. Cole Calbaugh and Dakota Thurman gave the Senior student addresses encouraging their peers to continue to be strong individuals who pursue every avenue for their success.
Mr. Richard Daughtery gave the Faculty Address acknowledging families and care givers diligence along with the student’s personal drive were all a part of what brought them to this esteemed event. He also encouraged the students to not grow weary, but to continue the work that they have begun in their academic careers.
After the close of the ceremony, the students and family enjoyed a banquet of grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls and pie prepared by Mr. Pendergrass’s Culinary Arts classes.
