Many free meals and discounts for Veteran’s Day 2017

Dayton, TN —  Restaurants and Businesses will be offering free meals and other discounts to veterans and military personnel during the Veterans Day weekend.  Veteran’s day, which was originally “Armistice” day” was signed into law in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to be celebrated on November 11th each year to honor veterans of all wars.

In 1975, after time of being celebrated in October, the United States went back to the actual date of Veterans Day carried historical and patriotic significance to many Americans, President Gerald Ford signed a new law returning the observation of Veterans Day to November 11th beginning in 1978.

More and more restaurants and businesses have joined in showing appreciation to veterans and active duty Military on Veteran’s Day.  Check out the list below:  Check with individual restaurants to ensure they are participating.    Check with local store and restaurants to see if they didn’t make list but are offering discounts.

On Saturday, November 11, Applebee’s will offer a free meal to veterans and active duty military who can provide proof of military service.

Great Clips: Veterans can get a free haircut on Veterans Day. Plus, if you are in one of these salons on Veterans Day, you can request a voucher to give to a veteran for a haircut sometime in the next six weeks.

Denny’s: Active military and veterans can get a free “Build Your Own Grand Slam” breakfast between 5 a.m. and noon Nov. 10. Dine in with military ID.

Golden Corral: The restaurant will have a Military Appreciation Night with a free “Thank You Meal” from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, for customers with a military ID.

Shoney’s: Veterans can get a free “all you care to eat Breakfast Bar” from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Veterans Day

O’Charley’s: Veterans and active-duty service members can get free “$9.99er” meals. Veterans also will receive a $5 off $20 purchase voucher for another visit before Nov. 30.

Red Lobster: Veterans, active duty military and reservists (with ID) get a free appetizer or dessert.

Cicis Pizza – Free pizza buffet if you show a valid Military ID on Veteran’s Day.

Fazoli’s – November 10th through Sunday, November 12th all active, inactive and retired military personnel receive a free spaghetti with marinara or meat sauce.

Krystal – On Veterans Day, all active and retired military can receive a complimentary sausage biscuit during breakfast hours (6am – 11am).

Logan’s Roadhouse – This Veterans Day, veterans and active duty drop on in for an American Roadhouse Meal on the house. Not valid in CA, NC, SC or Augusta, GA, locations. Veterans year round receive a 10% discount to guests who present a military or veterans’ ID

Texas Roadhouse – On Saturday November 11th, select from a free special veterans lunch menu including a beverage and sides.


Free meal, Veterans Day, Sunday. Chili’s is offering all Military Veterans past and present their choice of one of six meals. This offer is available during business hours at participating Chili’s in the U.S. only. Dine-in from limited menu only; beverages and gratuity not included. All Desserts priced $5 for Veterans and active duty military. Simply show proof of military service.

US National Park Service Free Veterans Day Admission – The U.S. National Park Service is waiving fees at most of its day-use recreation sites over the Veterans Day holiday weekend.

Walgreens – Offering a 20% discount on regularly priced items to all Veterans, Active duty military on Veterans Day 2017. Must present a Walgreens Rewards card and valid Military ID or proof of service to receive discount on eligible items

On Saturday, November 11, Veterans and Servicemembers with a valid military ID or other proof of service will receive 15 percent off their entire purchase. Offer available at all Tractor Supply locations.

Goodwill does not have a Veterans Day discount, but the Midstate stores offer a 10 percent discount every day to all active military and veterans who show their ID.

Home Depot has a 10 percent discount for active-duty, reservists, retired and service-connected disabled veterans and qualified dependents with a valid military ID. Plus, all veterans and active-duty military get 10 percent off on the major patriotic holiday weekends, such as Veterans Day, Memorial Day and July Fourth.

Lowe’s offers a 10 percent discount every day to military personnel who are active, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and family members with a military ID card.

Cabela’s Outdoor Store

Veteran’s Day weekend, Cabela’s outdoor store is offering their employee discount to all veterans, active duty military and reserves, law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel on Nov. 11 and 12. Dubbed a “Hometown Heroes” event, eligible shoppers will need to check in at a table at the store to receive a coupon for the discount. The discount varies from 5% to 50%, depending on item. Some items may be excluded

Another special event to honor veterans is the Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park Veterans Day weekend Nov. 10-12. There will be historical re-enactors, a screening of the 1941 film “Sgt. York” starring Gary Cooper, a chance to see a World War I era aircraft in the air, live music, bus tours, an “over the top” trench program and guided home tours. In addition to the free events, there is a $3 York Home tour and a $5 “War in the Dark” program and a $5 bus tour. This park is in Pall Mall. Details: or 931-879-6456.

The annual Veterans Day parade, honoring those who have served our country, is always at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, which is a historical connection with the end of World War I in 1918. The Nashville regional parade starts on Broadway in downtown Nashville at the bridge over Interstate 40 and proceeds down Broadway to Third Avenue. Veterans from every branch of the military and from World War II to Afghanistan and Iraq will participate. The 101st Airborne Division Band, Honor Guard and Troop element will lead the parade. Other bands include the U.S. Navy Band from Norfolk, Va.
