TVT in Spring City putting on “Annie: The Musical” for two weekends
Spring City, TN — The Tennessee Valley Theatre is now accepting reservations for the highly anticipated production of “Annie: The Musical”. Over 70 youth and adult cast/crew members are involved in the making of this show. Youth involved in the show represent students from Hamilton, Rhea, Roane and McMinn Counties. Schools represented in this production include RCHS, RCES, DCS, SCES, SCMS, Graysville, Frazier, Cherokee Middle, Sale Creek High, Dyllis Springs Elementary, Riceville Elementary, Roane County Homeschool and Rhea County Homeschoolers.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations… and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, features some of the greatest musical theater hits ever written, including “Tomorrow.” The show is double cast and will be making a promotional sampling of show numbers on December 2nd at the Dayton Christmas Parade and 9th at the Depot before the Spring City Christmas Parade.
The show will stage December 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 & 10. Friday and Saturday shows will start at 7:30 pm while Sunday shows will be at 2 pm. Tickets for the show are $12 for adults and $10 for students. Groups rates are available as well. The show is directed by Georgette Boozer and assistant director Crystal Janow. Music direction is by Amanda Miranda and Thomas Rodgers at the keyboard. In honor of national adoption month, The Tennessee Valley Theatre is partnering with the Rhea County Animal Shelter. “Sandy”, the lovable mutt from the show is being fostered by the cast is from the Rhea County Animal Shelter. A pet adoption event is being planned for Dec 9th from 2-4 at the Tennessee Valley Theatre before the Christmas parade. The Annie cast will also make a guest appearance at the Dayton Christmas parade on Dec 2nd helping with the shelter animals.
The TVT Stage Presence youth would like to congratulate fellow youth Rowan Powers on her official adoption by the “father of her heart.” Rowan’s mother purchased a dress to donate to the Annie cast. When Rowan saw the dress, she insisted on wearing the dress to her own adoption at the Rhea County Courthouse on November 1. Congratulations Rowan, Dawnia and Matt from your TVT family!
