Parker and Harris win Fish the Chick 2017

Jason Parker and Andy Harris win $1000 for 18 lbs catch to win 5th FTC

Dayton, TN —  Jason Parker and Andy Harris teamed together for 18 pounds of bass and were rewarded with $1000 first prize in the 5th annual Fish the Chick Tournament held out of the the Dayton Boat Dock in Chickamauga Lake on Saturday, September 2nd.   The event brought in over $3500.00 for United Way.

This is a annual event sponsored by United Way of Rhea County to raise funds for supportive programs in Rhea County.  Funds go for support and the betterment of women and girls by funding services that help women become stronger, healthier and happier.

Several prizes were distributed, including the $1,000 check, and year’s worth of bragging rights. In addition to hard cash, competitors won from a variety of prizes, including a spa package from Platinum Spa and a custom bait package for the top youth angler by Gary Yamamoto.

67 boats were on the water Saturday with 131 anglers competing for prizes. Two of the top 5 finishing teams were members of the National Champion Bryan Lions Fishing team.

4 th – Steve Harrison and Lewis Kinsler
5th – Dylan Pritchett & Francisco Colin

Others receiving prizes were:

Young Fisherman Matthw Stombargh won the Yamamoto Baits Package
Gina Richey won the Platinum Salon package
$50 gas card went to Sherry Keltch

Bus ticket for domestic violence, eye care and rent among other friends

The tournament promotes youth anglers says organizer Jenny Nevans.

“Recognizing our youth anglers and encouraging family participation, we allowed non-fishing boat captains.”

Concurrently, a handful of women leaders came up with the idea to host a bass tournament calling it Fish the Chick and needed a partner to help get it off the ground.  Jenny Nevans, a BASS sponsored lady bass angler and Christine Ralph Executive Director of UW talked and a partnership was formed with proceeds going to support the GRANT with additional funds.

2016 Winners were Justin and Lonnie Freeman.

First place team from 2015 was team of Tyler Chumley and Robert Gibson, members of the Bryan fishing team.

First place team from 2014 was team of Kevin Burnette and Chad Reel.

Chuck Keltch and Billy Joe Wheat snagged won the first Fish the Chick in 2013.
