Nina Margaret Gibbs, 93, died Wednesday September 20, 2017 at Rhea Medical Center.
Born in McMinn County, Tennessee, Nina was the daughter of the late John and Artie Hicks Wattenbarger. She was a graduate of Hiwassee College. Nina and her husband Jesse moved from Chattanooga to the Spring City community in 1952. She first taught in the Monroe County School System and then the Rhea County School System; before retiring. Nina was a member of the Spring City United Methodist Church, the Loyalty Sunday School Class and U.M.W. of the church. She started the kindergarten program at the Spring City United Methodist Church. Nina was a charter member of the Spring City Rescue Squad Crewettes.
Nina was preceded in death by her sisters Vivian Lamke, Mary Edith Wattenbarger, Cedella Cranfield and Marie Taylor and her brothers Howard, Carl and John Henry Wattenbarger.
Survivors include her husband of almost 71 years Jesse Gibbs of Spring City, sons Edward (Linda)Gibbs and Randal Gibbs both of Spring City, daughter Patricia (Kelton) Owen of Murfreesboro, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Spring City United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating. Interment will follow in the Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church.
