Over the past two weeks, the 2014 NACA Basketball Tourney crowned 13 Champions at Fort Bluff Camp.
Dayton, TN — Over the past two weeks, Fort Bluff Camp played host to 96 Christian High School teams as they converged in Rhea County for the 2014 NACA Basketball Championship. The National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament was held at six different gyms and crowned 13 champions. There were 51 teams competing in the first week with 45 teams competing in week two. Teams traveled from New York to Florida to compete for the coveted title. Each week the excitement climaxed Friday night for the highly-anticipated Slam-Dunk Contest.
Fort Bluff Camp, located on Dayton Mountain, has been the tournament’s home since it’s inception in 1980. NACA not only has basketball tournaments but will host tournaments throughout the year in Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Golf, Baseball and Football.
NACA Executive Director, Dave Sekura said “This was the best tournament we have ever had. We had three top 25 teams in attendance and many of the Championship games were very competitive and on Friday nights the gym was packed for both weeks.” There were excellent speakers at rallies held during the week. Some of those speakers included Danny Buggs, former University of Tennessee Chaplin and also former NFL player and Roger Woods, the present Chaplin at the University of Tennessee who has over 20 years working with youth ministries and programs. Sekura was very appreciative of the many volunteers and staff members that made this tournament a success.
All the championship games were streamed live on the internet by Prepspin and can be found on Youtube. Fittingly, the last game went into overtime where Community High School (North Carolina) overcame Columbus High School (Indiana). On May 4th and 7th there will be Golf, Soccer, Softball and Baseball teams coming in for more Championship action at Fort Bluff Camp.
