RHEA COUNTY, Tenn. — Tennessee Highway Patrol confirms one person has died after an accident near the 1600 block of Cottonport Road in Dayton. Reports from residents in the area suggest the victim was a 45-year-old man.
Around 1:45 AM, a red Toyota truck, left the road and burst into flames after hitting a tree.
Residents at the location heard a pop ensued by an explosion. They called 911 and emergency responders were on the scene immediately.
“I don’t know how they got here so fast,” claimed Rachel Purser of the quick response.
Frazier Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene followed by Rhea County Sheriff’s Department.
With respect to the family, the victim’s name has not been released.
