MainStreet Dayton presents A Dickens Christmas!

2014 Dayton Horse & Carriage Christmas Parade

December 6, 2014 – Downtown Dayton

A Quaint Christmas Parade and celebration is what the late Miss Kitty McDonald envisioned when she created Dayton’s Horse & Carriage Parade in 1997 for the Dayton Community. This event has blossomed into a festivity that showcases non-motorized carriages and wagons, beautiful horses, mules, caroling groups and costumed children in the annual Christmas Horse and Carriage Parade, and MainStreet Dayton is proud to continue the tradition that Miss Kitty imagined 18 years ago, and the community welcomes you to our town to celebrate “A Dickens Christmas”.

Enjoy sales in downtown shops all day. Appalachian Christmas Music will start at 2 pm, and vendors will be on the courthouse lawn. The Christmas Critters Pet Pageant starts at 2:30 at the Courthouse, and pageant entrants have a complimentary spot in the parade.

On the courthouse lawn admire the serenity of the Living Nativity presented by the youth of First United Methodist Church. Elves will assist Santa Claus as he mingles before the parade and is available for photos at The General Store until he heads to the parade line-up where he will be on his horse drawn sleigh with the poster contest winners.

Our Town Crier, Lori Reid rings her bell to signal the start of the quaint parade. Grand Marshall, Kerry Nabors is being honored for his extraordinary volunteer leadership in the community, especially in spearheading the design and renovation on Market & Main Streets in Downtown Dayton through the support of MainStreet grants and volunteers and the building & business owners. Everything old is new again!

The parade Emcee is Tennessee Representative Ron Travis, and Jenny Nevans will be on hand to entertain guests and provide colorful commentary.

After the parade, enjoy the annual lighting of the historic Rhea County Courthouse and the bucolic community candlelight caroling on the lawn.

Parade line-up is at 3:30 at the Dayton walking track, and the parade starts at 4:30.
