Hampton Continue Long Line of Recent 1000 points Scorers

December 2018

Evensville, TN —  Rhea County High School junior basketball player Mallory Hampton was honored between games with Hixson High School recently.  Mallory took time after her game, a win over Hixson to talk about her achievement and her choice for college.

Recently Micah Black, Jessie Wallis, Amber Levi and Julie Brown have all passed the 1000 point milestone.  Rhea County Lady Eagle basketball has been blessed to have these young ladies who can put the ball in the basket.  Mallory is the latest and she is not done.  Mallory can do more than shoot, as she handles the ball well, rebounds way past her height and plays defense with high energy.  I asked Mallory about her accomplishment and she was humble and matter of fact.  Scoring 1000 points is an accomplishment but it has almost become a tradition for Rhea County Lady Eagles.

Mallory about hitting 1000 said, “It’s pretty cool.”

Mallory talked about when she would be good enough to play college ball.

“I have always wanted to(play college ball).  My experience with travel ball and middle school ball gave me confidence I could play at the next level.”

Talking about the very tough basketball schedule and the very good basketball players she has been matched up against Mallory said, “Riverdale is really good.  It is always tough following them.  Madison Hays and her sister are very good.  Gracee Dishman is very good.”

Talking about trying to stop Gracee Dishman, Mallory said, “She likes to drive and attack and can shoot.  You pretty much have to play her straight up and hope for the best.”

Mallory shared some insight to her college decision.  “I committed to Samford in Birmingham.  They have excellent academics.  I love the coaches, and the culture there.  It was awesome and everything I was looking for.”
