Irene Hickman Killough


Irene Hickman Killough age 83 of Dayton passed away at her home Saturday afternoon October 28, 2017. She was born on February 12, 1934 the daughter of the late Frank and Odessa Mae (Johnson) Hickman. She was also preceded in death by her husband James “Mack” Killough, her daughter, Betty Jo Smitherman, her son Marvin Sims, Jr., grandson Ryan Ballinger, great-grandson Bradley Schara, two sisters, Mary Ruth Byrd and Frances Long, and her five brothers, Robert, George, Roy, Carlos and Wendell Hickman.
Irene was the former owner and operator of Mack’s Bait & Tackle, Valley Package Store and Valley Trailer Park. She was an avid reader, enjoyed yardwork and landscaping and was proud of her membership in the 700 Club for many years. She was a member of the Sale Creek Church of God.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Fonda Ballinger of Chattanooga, son-in-law Jerry (Diane) Smitherman of Tunnel Hill, GA, three brothers, Lonnie Hickman of Dayton, Harold Hickman of Evensville, William “Boot” (Liz) Hickman of Dayton, brother-in-law Bobby Byrd of Dayton, two sisters, Bessie McCloud of Graysville, Sheila Hickman of Crossville, sister-in-law Jane (Rex) Dugger of Dayton, five grandchildren, Kelly Horton, Jimmy (Veronica) Wilson, Shellie Smitherman, Chris Smitherman, Lindsay Ballinger Vaughn, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Irene will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Bennett officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens.
