Golden Eagles Too Much for Cookeville Cavaliers

Golden Eagles Visit Cookeville

It was a beautiful night for Friday Night Football at Eddie Watson Stadium, Cookeville, TN. Both teams went into the game sharing the number one position in district standings. Cookeville High School was predicted to win the district by coaches and media, but the Golden Eagles would have none of it. Rhea County wins 27-3 and remain undefeated in Class AAA Dist 6.

After a scoreless 1st Quarter, veteran QB Austin Dotson #9 hooked up with senior Taylor Jenkins #12 for an 83 yard pass. The play setup a 3 yard TD run by Dimitrius Patterson #6 and PAT by senior Wayatt Maerki #35. The Cavs drove all the way to the Rhea County 8 yard on the ensuing possession. Golden Eagles defense stiffened and the Cavs were forced to settle for a field goal. The first half ended with Rhea County leading 7-3.

A big win for us to take the lead in the district.

A very stingy Eagle defense came out in the second half. Not only did they shutout the Cavs in the second half, but Junior standout Bryce Keylon #23 returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown. Jacob York also had a big game. York rushed for 92 yards on 10 carries plus a TD. QB Austin Dotson and Dimitrius Patterson put the icing on the cake in the last minutes with a 30 yard TD reception. Check out the highlights and postgame interview with Coach Mark Pemberton below.

Rhea County had 344 total yards on offense with 207 rushing and 137 passing. The Golden Eagles visit long time rival Soddy Daisy Trojans next Friday, Oct 11th. (Click on thumbnails below for full size photos.)
