Rhea County Golden Eagles will be hosting the Red Bank Lions for their Homecoming game tonight. The Golden Eagles are coming off a huge win over Cumberland County, 63-7. The Rhea County offense broke their single game scoring record which was previously 61 points vs Walker Valley set in 2005. Rhea County High School first played the Red Bank Lions in 1974. Over the years Red Bank has gotten the best of Rhea County, leading the series winning 23 out of the 32 games played. The last time these two teams met was in 2008, Rhea County won 9-6. Let’s take a closer look at the 2013 Red Bank Lions.
Red Bank Lions
Red Bank is always a big game for Rhea County, and we’re looking forward to them coming in on homecoming.
Coach Mark Pemberton
The Red Bank Lions proved they could get the job done last week in a 37-14 win over league opponent Chattanooga Central at home. The week before, the Lions basically got slaughtered by Signal Mountain, 63-0. Despite having a tumultuous year Red Bank is 2-0 in Class AA Dist 6 play.
Rhea County Golden Eagles
The Golden Eagles put on a clinic last week versus Cumberland County. They were able to open up their passing game as Senior QB #9 Austin Dotson completed 7-8 passes for a total of 214 yards and 4 TDs. Standout Rhea County receivers include siblings Noel and Dimitrius Patterson. Sophomore Noel Patterson leads team with 8 reception for the year yielding 233 yards and 4 TDs for the season. Senior Dimitrius Patterson is averaging 49 yards per catch with 2 receptions for TDs this season. Dimitrius is also leading the very talented Golden Eagle backfield with 346 yards and 5 rushing TDs for the season. He is joined by several other stand-out backs for the Golden Eagles including Senior Joby Berry #3, Junior Jacob York #5, and Freshman Cody Bice #21. The Golden Eagle offense has a talented backfield but owes their success to the strength of their offensive line. Rhea County has consistently controlled the line of scrimmage so far this year.
On the defensive side, Rhea County Sophomore Zach Daoust #24 leads the team with 29 tackles averaging 7.3 per game. The Golden Eagle Defense has 11 sacks and 4 interceptions so far this year. Junior Jacob Williams #52 leads the team with 3 sacks followed by Senior Taylor Jenkins #12 with 2 sacks for the year. Junior David Loden #2 leads the team with 2 interceptions picking up an average of 20.5 yards after the pick. Again Rhea County owes defensive success to their defensive line who have dictated the tempo of the games.
With a rivalry that is as storied as Rhea County vs Red Bank, the Golden Eagles must bring their A-Game tonight. Please come out and support the Golden Eagles tonight as the school celebrates its homecoming. Bring the 12th Man in the 4th Quarter we may need him for this unpredictable Red Bank team.
