Doug Beard inducted into Cleveland State Hall of Fame

February 2018

Cleveland, TN —  Former Golden Eagle baseball player Doug Beard was inducted into the Cleveland State Hall of Fame February 3, 2018.  Doug was one of 8 inductees from various sports inducted.  He was one of two baseball players. Doug graduated from Rhea County High School in 1982, where he was a standout baseball and football player. Doug played for the Cleveland State baseball team in 1983-84.  In 1984 he was named All-American after leading the JUCO nation in RBI’S and home runs.  After Cleveland State, Doug went on to play at East Tennessee State and then signed with the Cincinnati Reds.  Doug currently lives in Knoxville, Tennessee with his two daughters Savannah and Macy,   He is the son on “Tick” and Connie Beard,  has brother David, and sister Dixie.

Rhea County High School baseball coach Rusty Ray said, “We were rivals of each other in college as I attended Roane State and Doug attended Cleveland State.”

“Doug’s father, “Tick” Beard was in the Navy and a standout fast pitch pitcher for the Naval Academy’s softball team.  Doug and I played high school and American Legion baseball together.”
