In the second preseason scrimmage for the Rhea County Eagles, our boys in green and gold will travel to Anderson County to face the Mavericks this Saturday.

Many Eagle fans will remember last preseason when the “Birds of Prey” took on the Mavericks away from Eagle Stadium, leaving with a 10-7 varsity victory while sporting the “Wing-Gun” offense.

This season brings another trip to Clinton, but a different offensive look for the Eagles as they have opted to drop both the Wing-Gun and Power-T in favor of the Georgia Tech Triple-Option.

Last week, the offense rolled to a big day on the ground against another team from Clinton, the Dragons of Clinton High School. They will look to build on that success this week.

Seniors Aulbrey Smith, Chandler Kaylor, and Bo Garmany all had huge days on offense and defense, and, along with fellow senior Zach Pemberton at quarterback, will be chomping at the bit to have another big day this week.

Anderson County advanced deep in the 4A playoffs, losing to eventual 4A state champion Greeneville High School, coached by former Rhea County Eagle Kaine Ballard.

The Mavericks top offensive player, 6’0 185 pound senior quarterback Stanton Martin, did not play in their previous scrimmage with Powell, and it is uncertain if he will see action against the Eagles this week as he is rehabbing a leg injury.

Ryan Moog (LB/RB) leads the Mavericks on the ground, standing at 6’0 and weighing in at around 230lbs. He will be running behind 6’1 270 pound senior Trey Noe at center and 6’1 260 pound junior guard Matthew Murphy.

On defense, they will look to Moog and Noah Colorusso, a 6’0 225 pound transfer linebacker from Gibbs High School in Corryton, TN.

The scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday at Anderson County High School.
