First Annual Bryan/DCS field day brings Bryan Community together
April 5, 2017
Dayton, TN — Bryan and DCS teamed up for the annual Dayton City School field day this year. This is first year Bryan and DCS have teamed up and around 77 students and student/athletes worked with Trish Newsom, the organizers of the event and other key members of the Dayton City School staff and teachers. The field day has been a staple zat Dayton City School for 38 years.
Trish Newsom and Stephen Ricketts (BC student who is RheaFit intern) began talking about expanding the reach of RheaFit.
ENACTUS (entrepreneurial group at BC) assisted Stephen Ricketts in RheaFit efforts and the Field Day project was created in conversations with Dr. Adina Scruggs, Business Dept Chair at BC, Trish Newsom and Stephen Ricketts earlier in 2017.
The Bryan College Athletic teams, ENACTUS students, and DCS faculty that worked together to make this project a successful reality.
Represented in the volunteer pools were members of the Basketball teams, baseball team, track and cross country teams, and cheer squads. Also represented were volleyball, softball and student campus organizations.
Field Day is a long standing tradition at Dayton City School. Still remember when my children participated many years ago. Over the years the format has changed but what has remained constant is the popularity of the event, the teamwork it has initiated and the fun the participants have.
The list of games played this year are long.
Kickball, Corn hole boards, soccer, tag, tug-of-war, simon says, hula hooping, dodge ball and others were enjoyed by the Dayton City school students from pre-kindergarten up to 8th grade.
