Eagles set Records, Look to 2019

May 2018

Evensville, TN —  The RCHS Boys Soccer team had a memorable season.  The obliterated the wins record with 17 wins, made it deeper into post season than any team before and set a standard that will be hard to match for the 2019 team.  With their 2-1 loss at Blackman, the fantastic season finally came to an end.  In the game, it was Cooper Ruehling scoring the 70th goal of the season for the Eagles in the loss.  Christian Newport set new goals scored record with 22 as he broke his own record from last year.

Defense down the stretch was fantastic.  Five losses by just one goal against very good teams.  Rhea County is proud of this great team that continued to put Rhea County Soccer on the map.  During the season, Coach Justin Smith passed the 100 win plateau.   Hopefully in the soccer camp in June, the next Christian Newport will come along and then at RC3 soccer the next Payne Morgan will patrol the net.

Gone are six seniors but new players are coming and next year should be another great adventure for the Rhea County Soccer program.

Fred Mejia 0, Xander Holloway 2, Brennan Gilmore 3, Seniors Christian, Newport 4 ,Zion Goins 7, Fernando Reymundo 13, and Brandon Sanjuan 22 were honored after the Warren County vs Rhea County Game.. The Eagles won 3-2 over Warren and then 7-0 over Red Bank in home games last week.(Photo:JohnCannon)

Several Eagles earned post season honors with Christian Newport taking home the MVP and Coach Justin Smith taking home Coach of the Year.  Seven different Eagles received post season awards.

Rhea County High School Soccer team earned several season 6-AAA superlatives and received those awards at Cookeville on Thursday night. Left to right are: Carson Ruehling, Justin Price, Carter White, Christian Newport, Payne Morgan, Omar Lopez and Phillip Hall.(Photo:GaryBolden/RheaReview)
