Rhea County adjust to district team changes

August 10, 2017

Evensville, TN — The 2017 Rhea County High School Girl’s Soccer season opens at home on August 15th against Hixson at 7:00.  Rhea County has 14 games scheduled and 3 more games in a tournament, the Smoky Mountain Cup. The team will have only two seniors leading the way this year and sixteen players on the roster.

Senior Leadership will come from Allison Sekura and Emmie Stumbo. Captains for this years team will be Mary Kanipes, Emmie Stumbo and Tori Mitchell. Over half the roster will be freshman and sophomores.

The District has changed too with Stone Memorial and Cumberland County gone and Soddy Daisy being added. The Lady Eagles will only play four regular season district games. Those games will be against Warren County, Soddy Daisy, White County and Cookeville. Soddy should be a strong team and Cookeville will most likely be district favorite.

Rhea County will be strong up the middle and look to Hannah Deakins and Allison Sekura to lead the offense. Emmie Stumbo, Whitney Gross and Tori Mitchell will provide solidarity in the middle, while Mary Kanipes will bring experience to the goal-keeper position.
Justin Smith will be back as head coach and assistants will be Katherine Bradley and Amy Newport.
