Native American Powwow September 9-10

September 8, 2017

Dayton, TN —  When we think Pow Wow, we think big cities like Chattanooga, Knoxville, or Nashville, but little ole Dayton Tennessee has its own inter-tribal Pow Wow.

The ” Spirit of the Veteran and Warrior” is an inter-tribel Native American Festival honoring Veterans and Warriors, but Tyishka does not stop with just honoring them. She has brought alive a culture that many of us have taken for granted.  She has brought in educators to show the “old” ways and how they have brought about modern times for Native Americans.

Last year, I got the great privilege of watching everyone experience native culture and what the Spirit of a Warrior is to Native Americans. The Pow Wow is a fantastic place to ask questions, and get answers from individuals who live their culture day to day. Many think that “ancient culture” means a dead culture, but for Native Americans this is not the case. For Tyishka, Nakemo, and many others what we call an “ancient culture” is a way of life. In so saying, Tyishka created this Pow Wow to honor her grandfather who was a veteran and to raise money for her farm where she rescues animals and takes care of them.  All the proceeds from the festival go to Winds of The Wolves which is an animal reserve owned by Gina Tyishka Torres.

So, come out and support this amazing event.  Enjoy dancers, music, food, Native American vendors, and so much more! This event will take place at Point Park in Dayton on September 9th and 10th.
